Ms Kelly, Founder, singlemamahood.com, 2007

Kelly Williams, motivational speaker and parent educator, is the founder of singlemamahood.com, which provides support, appreciation, empowerment and parenting tips.  The singlemamahood.com mission is “reducing drama for the single mama.”

Williams is author of Single Mama Dos & Don'ts and Single Mamahood: Advice and Wisdom for the African American Single Mother, self-help, no-nonsense books that show single women how to raise confident, joyful children.  Her acclaimed down-to-earth guides feature real stories of single mothers and teach women that by realistically challenging the obstacles before them, they can raise children who are self-assured, happy and healthy. Psychologists, readers and critics praise Williams for her candid, forthright observations, suggestions and common-sense advice on topics such as school problems, finances and relationships.  Her inspirations and tips have been published in many magazines and newspapers and she is often a guest on radio call-in programs, where she offers single moms frank answers to their parenting questions.

Williams has appeared as a guest author at the Essence Music Festival, National Association of Black Journalists Conference, Zora Neale Hurston Festival, Black Women’s Expo and other events.  Her lectures and speeches have inspired crowds from San Diego, California to Kingston, Jamaica.

Williams, a former TV news reporter, is Director of Public Relations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.  She once hosted Healthcast at Tampa’s CBS affiliate, which featured a health information and resource segment called “Ask Kelly.”  She received a Society of Professional Journalists Public Service Award for a series of news reports about a young bone marrow patient who ultimately lost her battle with cancer.  Williams founded and hosted “For the Health of Children,” an educational program sponsored by Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Williams is a former advertising agency executive who has held executive and management-level positions at AT&T and Cubic Corporation.  She is still called upon by health care institutions, physicians, non-profit organizations, corporations and individual clients to provide media training classes, private coaching and crisis media relations preparation.

Williams spent two years as Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of North Florida and taught a public relations writing laboratory at San Diego State University.  She has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and a bachelor's in journalism from Lincoln University in Missouri.

Williams is a single mama with one child, a student at Morehouse College.
